The journal NORDISK MUSEOLOGI (Nordic Museology) is published twice a year. It is a forum for theoretical and scholarly discussion in museology which was established in 1993.
In 2009, Nordisk Museologi will be emphasising different aspects of the history, form, aesthetics and content of the exhibition as a media, mainly seen from a Nordic perspective.
There is a need for thorough studies of the types of exhibitions used in Scandinavia, along with the means these exhibitions employ to achieve the planned effects. These studies will involve both discussion and analysis of the forms of interplay between aesthetics and society, cultural history and museum policies, and between the visiting public and those involved in putting on the exhibitions.
We are interested in receiving both analysis and answers about why certain exhibition types and configurations develop and take on a dominant position in certain particular periods and within particular cultural contexts. We invite university researchers, museologists, museum staff, exhibition curators, artists, architects, designers and others to take part in a thorough study of this theme.
There are two deadlines that are important to note: 1 February for Nordisk Museologi 2009 number 1, and 1 August for number 2.
The journal is supported by Nordic funding agencies for the Humanities and it is acknowledged by the official museums associations in Denmark, Finland, Island, Norway and Sweden. Its articles are published in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish. English titles and summaries are provided. Occasionally full texts in English are offered. Thus the journal should be of interest also to the museum community outside the Northern countries.
The Internet edition should make the retrieval of articles and summaries easy. The editors also hope that as a result an increasing contact and exchange of ideas and research activities in museology could develop between museologists in the North and colleagues all over the world.
